Nine Inch Nails: “The Day The World Went Away”

Nine Inch Nails was performing on 2014/06/09 at the Stadthalle in Vienna. I have been a fan of them since they released “Pretty hate machine”. Check out the pictures from their 2014 tour here.

fav band and i love your black and white color..

  • Kaisa

Really nice photos, Matthias! I love how on the second photo it’s possible to see the sole of the sneaker, kinda a really cool step.
NIN played at Primavera Sound, but I only caught a glimpse. My friend said they’d been great.

    • Thanks Kaisa! Yeah, seems like to be Converse. It was a great show with a lot of visuals. Unfortunately they just turned the video wall on after the three songs we were allowed to shoot.

      • Kaisa

Heh, I just have a thing for shoes. Can’t explain it. 🙂 He’s like walking on the edge of the photo.

Bummer about the video wall then. Btw, how is it usually – do they kick you out completely after three songs or you could shoot from the audience (if it where physically possible of course)?

        • After the three songs you are not allowed to shoot from the audience with your equipment anymore. So it´s just the three songs in the pit or sometimes (like it was today with Miley Cyrus) from the back of the venue.

          • Kaisa

Okay, I see. Thanks for the info? One more questions (apparently there’s no stopping me) – could you stay to listen to the concert (in general, not necessarily Miley :)) or you’d have to leave the venue altogether?

          • No worries, asking too much Kaisa ;). I´m here to help out.
Here in Vienna I can stay and watch the entire show. Since I am only going to bands that I really like I stay most of the time. A friend from Germany told me that he always have to leave after the photo shoot. So I guess it depends mainly on the booker of the shows.

          • Kaisa

Sounds fair enough (that you get to stay). Probably also depends on the accreditation (if were press+photo then one can’t kick out a journalist).

          • When I shoot for magazines I only have a photo accreditation. Or, and this is the far better option, I shoot for the band and can do whatever I want.

          • Kaisa

Shooting for the band sounds like the ideal solution. Definitely something I would like to give a try one day.

Hopefully you’ll be blogging about your experience with being on a tour with a band. It’d be really interesting to read that.

          • You should. Shooting for the band is the best thing you can aim for. You will be able to shoot backstage and onstage without any restrictions. And I´ll definitely write about my tour experiences soon.

  • William Richards

Fantastic shots Matthias! And I love the black and white choice – really captures the rawness of the gig.

    • Thanks William! Yeah, I had also the feeling that b&w might be the better choice.

  • fuckin awesome photos!!! 😉

  • Agnes

Großartig, Matthias! Schlechte Lichtsituationen liegen dir!! 😉

  • Wezzy Cruze

I don’t know how I missed this, but this is unreal! One of my favourite bands and some of the best photos I’ve seen of them during this tour!

    • Thanks Wezzy! It was a great concert with a challenging light situation on stage. Furthermore we were only allowed to shoot right/left of the stage, but I guess they turned out pretty good.
